West Pokot Governor Simon Kachapin has accused area Senator Prof. John Lonyangapuo of being disrespectful and witch hunt to get political mileage.

The Governor said the senator has been spreading propaganda and inciting locals to tarnish his administration. Speaking to the media in Kapenguria, Kachapin said there has been much lies against his government accusing the senator of crisscrossing the  County to campaign against him.

“I want to warn Senator Lonyangapuo to respect me since both us were elected by the people. If he is interested in my seat he should declare and be ready for the tough battle,” he said.

The Governor told off the senator on his cheap political gimmicks as he assured him of a tough political battle ahead.

The County boss said the senator has been lying to residents that the  national government gave the County government 10,000 bag of relief maize to distribute to residents.

“Its unfortunate that an elected leader want us use lies to get political milleaege.The Senator should be informed that residents are watching and the truth will come out,” he said.

He pointed out that the County government purchased 5000 bags of maize to cushion residents from hunger with Devolution Cabinet secretary dismissing senator’s sentiments over the weekend as the toured Weiwei in Pokot Central Sub County.

Kachapin said senator should learn to engage in mature politics that will not divide the locals for his personal gain.

“We should engage in politics of development and shun away divisive politics that incite our people,” He said.

He accused Lonyangapuo of politicizing development in the region to blackmail his government.

“The senator has been fighting me since I was elected in office and I do not know why he should be talking about me everyday instead of working for the electorates,” the angry Kachapin asked.

Senator Lonyagapuo has been a great critic of Governor Kachapin leadership accusing him of poor leadership skills.

The senator is among political leaders in the County eyeing for gubernatorial seat a move political analysts attribute to his criticism of the incumbent Governor.

Governor Kachapin is among key allies of Deputy President William Ruto in the County and been a key agent of the Jubilee coalition in the County.

Kachapin is said to be a darling of DP Ruto with political weather indicating him ditching Kanu party to President Uhuru’s Jubilee party.
