TOURISM TO THRIVE IN NORTH RIFT, SAYS CS BALALA

North Rift   Region Economic Block (NOREB) counties; Baringo, Elgeiyo Marakwet, Nandi, Uasin Gishu, West Pokot, Tranzoia and Turkana tourism sector will thrive following strides the ministry of tourism has embarked to boost the quarter.

Tourism Cabinet Secretary Najib Balala recently during the opening of the Rimoi National Reserve, a new gem in Elgeiyo Marakwet County noted that significant of efforts have been put in place to revamp the quiescent ministry which lately , was disturbed by terrorism and travel advisories

The Cabinet secretary said restocking of the gem (Rimoi) was one way, the ministry is doing to market the game well known for its large number of  elephant population.

He said a good number of tourists will be realized in upcoming holidays to enjoy the wild destinations in Elgeiyo Marakwet and other counties within NOREB block which have already embraced tourism to improve counties’ economy.

He announced that strict measures to curb poaching are already in place to save the nature and attract tourism in the North Rift.

‘’ Tourism sector in Kenya remains one of the game changer to country’s economy. Thus major  paces including robust marketing of tourist attractions sites to save the sector from brink of collapse ,’’ said Najib Balala.

Elgeiyo Marakwet County Governor Alex Tolgos at the event said his government would allocate more funds to tourism ministry in a move to embrace the only gem in his county.

Elgeiyo Marakwet remains the only county in North Rift allowing paragliding sport, agricultural county and nest for champions.

Mr. Tolgos however added that major face lift will take place at the reserve  to increase its  popularity and  as a result  welcome more tourists.
