Transport between Chemolingot and Marigat has remained paralyzed after heavy rains pounding the area has led to the swelling of River Nginyang’ leading to a crisis.
The rain, which has been pounding the area for almost one week has seen and rendered Chemolingot town inaccessible from Nginyang and Marigat with fear of further catastrophic Effects taking a toll on residents leaving in the area.
Ripko/Kositei ward MCA Daniel Tuit said action should be taken to avert disaster in the area since most areas have been rendered inaccessible by heavy floods that has characterized the area for the past one week.
Tuit fears that voting during election would be adversely affected if the rains continue further calling on the electoral body, IEBC to take drastic measures that will ensure voting takes place.
He called on IEBC to consider employing the use of choppers to transport election materials if they expect the voting to take place as the areas are not accessible by road.
A week ago one person was swept by raging floods while a Nissan Matatu was swept in Nginyang River on Thursday by the raging floods.
More than 20 households living along the river Nginyang have been forced to move away and seek refuge in areas further away to avoid being swept away by the flooded river Nginyang.
The government has been called to act as residents face the risk of not accessing food items at the nearby Chemolingot center with transport remaining paralyzed even as the area remains landlocked for some time now.
