Baringo County is expected to register increased number of tourist following flamingo birds flying back to Lake Bogoria after two months of breeding in Lake Natron, Tanzania.
The Lake which is home of flamingo birds estimated to be over a million has been without the birds following the breeding season which starts in the months of February and March . After breeding miles away in Tanzania, the birds in numbers started perching back to the Alkaline water Lake.
Lake National Game Reserve Park Warden James Kimaru said that the lake has registered million of birds flying back two weeks ago. Even as the season of international tourists coming to Kenya approaches, Kimaru says the reserve is anticipating that many tourists will tour the lake which also prides of hot springs and wildlife animals.
Lake Bogoria Spa Resort General Manager Mrs Lydiah Dentewo said the resort has already experienced an increase in the number of tourist’s bookings since last week.
“The tourism scenario is expected to turn around in Baringo since the birds have now returned also insecurity that had scared away tourists have been contained following Kenya Defence Forces deployment,”said Ndetewo.
With the climatical changes most lakes in the county has been flooded, for instance the hot springs lake Bogoria had been submerged hence the scenic attraction of the geysers was invisible thus denying both local and international tourist the spectacular view of the lake. For years tourist had been riding to the place to boil eggs in the geysers which exceed 100 degrees boiling point, myths of natural healing of the springs where one washes his/her face to heal body ailments has attributed to influx of tourist.
Carol Chumba a local tourist appealed to local tourists to tour the lake to catch a glimpse of the spectacular scene of the birds.
County Commissioner Peter Okwanyo assured the tourists of safety as the security have been deployed to insecure places to quell the ongoing insecurity .
He also said the insecurity is only witnessed with some places not the whole county.
