The gazettement of nominated Members of County Assembly of Kericho has attracted a huge outcry from the public with fingers pointing that the nominated person neither fit to be person living with disabilities or the youth as stipulated by the constitution with the latest reaction coming from MP-elect of Belgut Hon Nelson Koech alias Sonko.

Koech termed the gazetted names as a mockery and one that lacks merit of representation. In a statement on social media the legislator aired his dissatisfaction, promising to take up the matters up to the courts, arguing that justice should be accorded to all candidates who were on the earlier nomination list but had their names expunged on the gazette by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission.

“It has come to our attention that a revised list of MCA’S slated for nomination to the county  assembly of Kericho  has been published. The alteration of  a list of nominees after election flies in the face  of Elections Act and the Constitution of Kenya 2010. The alteration is also a mockery of the consensus held by representative from every quota of our county in the run up to the poll.

The list as it is now is totally skewed and fails the test of special interest representation Contemplated by the drafters of constitution. I am particularly aggrieved with the fact that people with disabilities have been replaced by cronies of malicious individuals; I am also concerned that nominees from my constituency have Been struck out. Let me say this; gone are the days when lists of nomination were drawn at the capital.

Representative to the county assembly should  be a participant event not  as an option but as a right. For those whose names have been expunged, especially persons with disabilities, I am undertaking take up the matter with the relevant organs including legal redress. For the architects of the alteration your time is up, this is a new Kenya under a new dispensation.”
