Baringo County Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) secretary general has cautioned Teachers Service Commission (TSC) against transferring teachers in the county during this drought season.

Speaking on Sunday in Kabarnet , Joshua Cheptarus said the commission through the TSC director should not transfer teachers from their current working stations to other schools following the severe drought that has hit the county lately.

“As we thank the urgent interventions to address the dry spell in dry parts of this county i want to appeal to our county TSC director to revoke all the untimely transfers on teachers in the worst hit areas by the drought,” said Cheptarus.

He said the teachers in these areas have not been spared either in the ongoing hunger situation in the county since the transfer will cause more suffering by transferring them to new stations.

“Many teachers who have received the transfers are now wondering whether to move to their new stations or stay since the dry spell has affected them also. Let the commission allow them to stay in their stations till the drought ends,” urged Cheptarus.

Learning has been paralysed in over 150 schools in Tiaty, Baringo North , Baringo South and Mogotio sub counties due to hunger where pupils have been forced flee with their parents in search for food ,water and pasture for their animals.

“I want to also make an appeal to head teachers not to sent students for lack of school fees since the economy of persons living in these areas has been hampered negatively following the drought. Most of them have lost their livestock which they heavily depend on,” said the KNUT secretary general.

We should also see government coming in force like we saw in Kagir and Chesakam to address the situation in other parts of the county added Cheptarus.
