Incumbent Elgeyo Marakwet Governor Alex Tolgos yesterday received a major boost after he was endorsed by more than 50 elders from Keiyo North.
The elders who were drawn from Kamariny and Tambach Wards assured the Governor of their votes regretting that they had been duped during the Jubilee nominations which saw outgoing Keiyo South MP Jackson Kiptanui beaten to second place by Tolgos.
Tolgos will square it out with Moses Changwony who is vying on an independent ticket and tribal cards has been at play as campaigns intensify with Changwony picking former Keiyo North MP Lucas Chepkitony as running mate.
Tolgos has however dropped his Deputy Gabriel Lamaon and picked youthful Wesley Rotich from Emsoo Ward, Keiyo North.
“We have come here to assure you our support during the coming elections,” said Mzee Philip Chebii from Tambach.
Chebii said they had been misled by local politicians who according to him had personal problems with the Tolgos to vote against him.
“We still ask ourselves until this day what actually made us vote with a losing group,” he said.

The governor welcomed the elders asking them to vote for him so that he could complete the developments projects currently going on.
He denied reports that he had dropped Lamaon because he received least number of votes from his area.
“I rewarded hard work. Wesley has demonstrated this and as we speak the Cooperative department where he heads is best run,” he said.
