The unprecedented failure to sign Amaya Triangle Initiative MOU last Friday in itself was a blow to the realization of peace and Stability in the North Rift Region.

Peace is uncompromisable endeavor in the existence on humanity and in anyway should not be taken for granted. Neither should it be politicized. I am puzzled by the descriptions and submissions associated with the opposition of signing the MOU.

Honestly it was not worth to say that the initiative had been hurried and that it was a suspect in cover up for banditry attacks in the stakeholder Counties in the pact.

It is also not worth as cited by Some County Legislators to raise mundane concerns with the pokot name ‘Amaya’ nad that it has no emotional attachment with people from other Communities. We must even appreciate that the formation of African Union came out of Sirte Declaration under the stewardship of Maumar Gaddafi. The word Sirte in itself refers to a small town in Libya and has no continental attachment but led to establishment of a strong continental body of African people and nations. Again pursuit for peace has no attachment with emotions but reason. Most international laws governing the world have names based on the where they were signed or names of those who led the peace process e.g Rome Statute and Montevideo Conventions.

Public Participation should not also be a condition in peace process per se like in the signing of the MOU. If you involve people who are bitter in the souls, people who have lost their loved ones, people who are bruised by lack of peace….. believe me the process will be complicated and longer. Again the Process must be taken in a manner is top to down I.e from leaders down to the people just the way it was build on during the biblical times. In the year 2007, MOU, the National Accord and Peace and Reconciliation process and subsequent laws that led to resolving post election violence was signed by less than 10 individuals without involving Kenyans and that led to immediate ceasefire across the hotspots in the Country. If indeed Annan and his delegation was to involve Kenyans and communities, trust me, many life would still be lost and process would further be complicated. On that note it was barbaric for any legislature to obstruct the signing of Amaya Triangle based on failure to involve public and communities directly.

Nonetheless, they say they disagree to agree. I believe the set date agreed by the leadership and players, 25th April 2018 will be a destiny of peace and tranquility in North Rift Region.
I equally encourage the local leadership to take a humane, flexible, accommodative and multidisciplinary approach in their pursuit for sustainable peace and stability in the North Rift Region. And may God bless the work of their hands.
And to our people let us value peace. For Peace cannot be kept by force; it can only be achieved by understanding.
