Goat buyers who are coming for the famous Kimalel Goat Auction will only be required to pay using cash to avoid debts incurred in last year’s auction where farmers were forced to wait longer for their dues.
During last year’s auction buyers who are mainly politicians and business persons pledged to pay for goats bought but later failed forcing the farmers to owe the county government over 1 million shillings debt .
Though the county government said that they have paid the farmers some farmers are reluctant to take their goats for the auction.
Wesley Keitany, Baringo Tourism CEC in response to the claims, promised farmers that buyers must purchase the goats in cash to avoid debts saying that no farmer still owe the county government any farmer.
“We have layed down strategies to avoid buyers pledging or buying the goats in cheques so that we can pay our farmers in good time and also avoid debts during this year’s sale. We are strictly going to deal with cash,” Keitany said.
He also said the farmers will be paid within two or three days.
“Farmers will receive their pay just two or three days after the auction so that they can enjoy Christmas and also pay school fees for their children in time,” informed Keitany.
The event will kick off tomorrow with boat racing in Lake Baringo followed by Youth extravaganza in the evening and on Saturday in the morning Marathon( both Men and Women) climaxed by the auction.
