They say that love is when the other person’s happiness is more important than your own, this is what has been evidently displayed between one couple in Kabarnet ,Baringo .

The middle aged couple which have lived now for more than 30 years have been through thick and thin ,withstanding all the challenges which some have threatened to destabilize their companionship which they say it has been strengthened by their  Christian faith.

The couple had been living in good health until January 2013 when Mr William Sokoti started feeling unwell and after being taken to hospital he was diagnosed with a Kidney failure.

The news came as a shocker to the family as it was unexpected . The old man’s life was on the balance and the only thing that could save him was an immediate kidney transplant in India .

This prompted the doctors to conduct tests on all the family relatives to find a prospective donor with a matching organ that will be compatible with Sokoti’s body system.

According to the doctors ,only a person who is eligible to donate must be related by blood with the recipient. After a number of tests ,not even a single relative was identified to posses the desired Kidney.

His beloved wife Mrs Selina Sokoti didn’t even take a second thought , about the idea of donating her own kidney to her husband whom she believes that ,she is his missing rib. All the while, she has been pestering the doctors for her to be awarded the ‘special ‘ opportunity to give out one of her kidneys to one person who matters the most in her life.

“I was the first person to scream out that I want to donate my kidney but the doctors couldnt accept that since I wasn’t related by blood to him” said Mrs Sokoti.

But as they say, desperate moments calls for desperate measures ,the medics had to give in and that was when the couple flew to India for the successful transplant which took place in November last year.

To Mr Sokoti her beautiful wife whom he proposed to her in the year 1984 is like a second god to him and he will trade anything for her .

“I fell in love with her since she was God fearing at the same time she was a principled young lady who respected herself” narrates the cheerful Sokoti.

He goes ahead narrating that ,her wife is the one who saved her life and she has always been there for him in good health and in sickness.

“I met my husband when he was still a farmer and also he was a staunch christian” reveals Mrs Sokoti adding that they have never had any kind of a serious conflict or misunderstanding and if she was to marry again she will marry the man who has her kidney.

“The secret of our never ending love and unity is that, whenever we have any misunderstanding we normally sit down and chat it out ” explains the 55 year old Mrs Sokoti.

The couple envisions  a society which is build by love which is not led by greed and material things .They advise the younger generation to always trust in the Lord for a better and long lasting relationship.
