Baringo County Senator Gideon Moi has accused his political rivals of waging a smear campaign to discredit him before the next polls using insecurity that has affected parts of the county.
Speaking on Wednesday in Bartabwa in Baringo North sub county,Gideon lamented that his political rivals have hatched a plan to deal a blow to his political career by propagating lies on his stand on the current operation to flush and weed out bandits in Baringo.
“My political enemies are using insecurity to pin me down since I decided to allow government to take charge of the situation that was going out of hand. I was categorical on this matter and even went further to support the ongoing operation but instead my rivals spread lies that I had opposed, ” a visibly angry Moi said.
He maintained that he has been in the forefront in championing for the restoration of peace in the county and it was unfair for some to use propaganda that he has been silent on the same.
Talks have been rife that he has been silent when alleged Pokot bandits were maiming innocent civilians.
“Following the move by West Pokot Senator Prof John Lonyangapuo urging the government to stop the operation I personally requested him to go slow and leave my county issues. Did you hear me supporting him?, “questioned Moi.
The senator who is also KANU chairman is facing a backlash in his backyard following allegations that he had gone to court to block the ongoing ‘Dumisha Amani Operation ‘in insecure parts of the county that has seen over 10 people losing their lives.
Moi also wanted the government to apprehend criminals who have been terrorising locals in Baringo just like what they have done in Laikipia county after the killing of a Sosiani Ranch director.
“More than 300 bandits were arrested in Laikipia but in Baringo the government has not made any arrests,” said Gideon Moi.
