A Baringo Nominated Member of County Assembly has requested the county government to establish a graduate internship program to unemployed university graduates.

Through a motion that was passed yesterday in the assembly, Mrs Saphina Chelagat said the objective of the program is to help graduates gain working experience, reduce the vulnerability of unemployed university graduates, attain professional and practical skills necessary for efficient county operations.

“Unemployment among our youth has led to idleness, frustrations and wasteful investment of the graduates who are scarce resource in the county,” said Chelagat.

She raised the concerns that there is growing number of university graduates who lack employment despite studying and graduating from reputable institutions in marketable courses.

“The internship program will also provide seamless transition of the graduates into marketplace as well as increasing their chances of getting employed in the county or in other areas,” further added the legislator.
