Churo-Amaya Member of County assembly who had gone missing last Tuesday has been found dead in Donyo Sabuk in Machakos County.
Thomas Menito disappeared from Sinkoro Hotel , Kabarnet after three men who identified themselves as police officers abducted him only for his lifeless body to be found floating in River Athi just under the Ol donyo Sabuk bridge by a boda boda operator on Thursday at around 4 pm .
The body was later retrieved and a small poster found in his coat pocket bearing his name and taken to Ol Donyo Sabuk nursing home for postmortem.
According scene of crime officers from DCI Kangundo the body had an injury on his head caused by a blunt object.
The Baringo Member of County assembly becomes the second MCA to be murdered barely three months after Loyamorok ward MCA Fredrick Cheretei who was assassinated in February by unknown assailants in a Marigat hotel.
Members of county assembly led by Majority chief whip and Bartabwa ward MCA Reuben Chepsongol said it was shocking to learn the painful death of their colleague after going missing for three days.
“We are still in shock after receiving news of the killing of Churo Amaya MCA Thomas Menito by unknown people. It is sad day for this assembly and the entire having lost another member just months after the killing of Fredrick Kibet,” said Chepsongol.
Chepsongol who eulogized the Mca as a mediator called on the government to immediately investigate and bring to book those who murdered the legislator.
Kositei ward Member of county assembly Daniel Tuwit condemned the killing saying they are now living in fear since it seems there are people who targeting them.
“I condemn the killing of our minority whip with the strongest terms possible since it is now evident that there are some people who are targeting us. We don’t want to speculate who killed him but according to the reports we heard is that the three men who abducted him identified as police officers so we want the police to come out and clear the air,” said Tuwit.
The Mcas who were addressing the media outside county assembly buildings consoled with the family of the MCA.
Minito had been facing incitement and damage to property charges over invasion of conservationist Kuki Gallman(of Laikipia nature conservancy )in Laikipia and was out on bond.
