Grief engulfed residents of Seretut in Belgut Sub-County in Kericho County when a middle aged man suffocated and died inside a well which he was digging.
Isaac Ombogo, aged 40 years old is said to have been contracted by Grace Soi to dig a well, where he is suspected to have suffocated and died yesterday at around 10;00 am after digging 63 feet deeper.
It is alleged that Ombogo had been tasked to expand the well after the first person who had been contracted failed to reach the waterbed.
Kericho Deputy Criminal Investigation Officer, Julius Emase, confirmed the incident, saying that efforts to retrieve the body with the assistance from the County government was not successful yesterday and they embarked on the process early today where the body was retrieved at around 12;00 pm.
The body was retrieved through assistance of volunteer and other officials from the county government.
Emase warned the residents in the area to be careful when digging wells, urging them to avoid going more than 40 feet where there is lack of oxygen.
Seretut location chief Kibet Korir also warned the residents against contracting individuals who do not have any experience.
