Inua Jamii program to go mobile says Cs Phylis Kandie

Beneficiaries of Inua Jamii program under the Ministry of Labour Social Security and Services will soon start receiving their government funds at their door step this is after an outcry from the aged that they travel long distances to get the funds.

Speaking on Monday in Kabartonjo, Baringo North during assessment of the cash transfer program ,Cabinet Secretary in charge of Labour Phylis Kandie said her ministry has heard their complains of the beneficiaries and has directed service providers mandated to disburse the funds down to the villages.

“We have heard that most of those who benefit with this program travel long distances to access the funds in banks which has been a challenge to them so am directing the service providers closer to them, “said Kandie.

She cited that the elderly had to travel long distance to access the funds which is tiresome to the elderly owing to their elderly age; cases of elderly being robbed on the way had been reported in the past which the cabinet secretary termed it will be a thing of the past once the directive comes to effect.

The elderly also lamented that on many occasions they been sent home by banks since the system not reading their finger prints due to old age t, Kandie urged the old have caretakers whom they trust so that they can withdraw for them the money.

Over 1,500 elderly persons will benefit from the cash transfer in the sub county. 

Baringo North Member of Parliament William Cheptumo thanked the government for the initiative saying it has helped many buwho could have been languishing in old age.

“In Baringo North 1,530 persons benefit from this initiative but we need more to be added to this program since many have been locked out this program, “said Cheptumo.
