Grief engulfed Kabartamas village ,Ossen in Baringo north after their 17 year old boy who was chased by Kenya Forest Service officers lost his life following an attempt by officers to arrest him.

The family claim that their son who is a form four student at Kapkirwok secondary school was busy repairing a fence at home when the officers chased him towards a cliff nearby, after they accused him of being in possession of tree cuttings which were obtained illegally from the forest.

However, Michael Chepsergon the father of the deceased says that he had bought the materials which were used by his son from one of his friends and he wonders why the officers victimized his son which led to his sudden demise.

The mother said that they later realised that their son had died after his lifeless body was found at a nearby cliff with severe body injuries. This was after they had looked for him every where.

“We had even gone to his school to look for him since we thought maybe he went there after schools reopened yesterday” she said.

Since yesterday the body which is still at the foot of the 100 meter cliff is yet to be taken to the mortuary and the locals say that they will be forced to retrieve the body themselves.

The family now says that they have even reported the matter to the police but nothing has been done so far.

They also alleged that the police refused to come and take the body, saying their vehicle had no fuel.

With their son dead, the family now has been left pondering their next move.

Efforts to reach the Kenya Forest Service officers proved futile after they locked themselves inside their offices for several hours, declining to comment on the same.

However, the locals are now threatening to storm the offices anytime from now if no disciplinary action is taken against the officers whom they accuse of constantly harassing them.
