A middle aged man has been hospitalized after sustaining serious burns after fire broke out yesterday in Kabarnet town, Baringo county razing down to ashes more than 50 shops.
Even as business persons are yet to come to terms over the loss incurred following the inferno , the county government acknowledged that they are not prepared to tackle fire disasters since county’s fire brigades are grounded due lack of service.
Baringo Governor Stanley Kiptis who on early Friday Morning addressed the victims of the fire confirmed that the fire fighters have not been working since last year due to lack of service but revealed that the county government will purchase 50 million new fire engine.
“I am deeply saddened by the huge loss incurred following the fire incident but we are in talks with the county assembly to pass a supplementary budget to acquire a new fire engine to avert losses in future in case of fire disasters ,”said Kiptis.
The four fire engines which were seen by Rift News were parked at the office of town administrator and inflated tyres with others in deplorable state that cannot even be serviced.
More than 50 business people lost millions following the inferno that is believed to have started in one of the garages as a result of a power saw which was being repaired before it erupted into flames.
Other leaders led by Baringo Central Member of Parliament Joshua Kandie and Area Member of County Assembly Ernest Kibet vowed to fast tract acquisition of fire engine.
“As leaders we should come together to ensure we get a fire engine immediately ,” said Joshua Kandie.
A bar,Hotel, Dry clean ,garage are among the business premises that went up in flames on Thursday evening after fire broke out in one of the garage.
