CIVIL SOCIETY GROUP CALL FOR LONG LASTING PEACE

Baringo Civil Society Organization Forum (BACSOF) and Centre for Enhancing Democracy and Good Governance (CEDGG) has called for speedy measures by government to ensure normalcy in Baringo.

Speaking on the sidelines of insecurity in Baringo South and Tiaty constituencies, the society groups noted that scores of people in affected areas have been killed and hundreds displaced due to insecurity.

They said situation in the volatile areas of Arabal, Ng’aratuko,  Kasiela and parts  of Kerio Valley is worrying and alarming leading to mass exile of teachers, government officials and locals for fear of their security.

BACSOF Chairman Philip Tomno while addressing media at Kenya School of Government Kabarnet called on the national government to investigate the killing of Tiaty Mp aspirant Eng. Pepee Kitambaa and Loyamorok Member of County Assembly Kibet Cheretei.

The duo were on Saturday morning shot  dead by unknown masked men in a joint in Marigat along Nakuru –Kabarnet road.

He said speedy action on perpetrators will calm the heightened tension in affected areas .

Mr . Tomno asked the government to exercise their duty of protecting it’s people as required in the constitution by beefing up security.

‘‘ We urge on the county government to ensure bill of rights as enshrined in the constitution is respected .The killings, displacement of hundred of locals in the hot spots without government intervention is breach to constitution,’’ said the BACSOF Chairman.

CEDGG Programs Officer Evans Boss however added that civil society groups will push on the national government in addressing the obligation of fulfilling the bill of rights as entailed in the Kenyan constitution.

Mr. Boss called on the stakeholders and security organs of government to ensure peace is restored in warring communities .
