Baringo County senator Gideon Moi has welcomed the move by Commission on Revenue Allocation (CRA) plans to include Baringo on the list of marginalized counties which will see the county benefit with equalization funds.
Speaking on Wednesday in Cheberen, Mogotio sub county during his senatorial campaigns , Moi said finally his efforts to ensure the county is allocated with the funds has yielded fruits saying it will transform the county to the better.
“At last, the commission has accepted to include Baringo to get additional cash for development as the CRA have plans to enlist this county on the list of marginalized counties, “said Moi.
The senator who seeking for his reelection on the county’s senatorial seat said he was happy that what he has been fighting for at senate has finally sailed through and if approved by parliament Baringo and other counties will start receiving Equalisation Fund.
The marginalized devolved units have been allocated total of Sh7.7 billion for the 2017/18 financial year, an increase from Sh6 billion the previous year.
While releasing a report that was conducted on 16 counties ,CRA chairperson Jane Kiringai said the additional counties were included following the adoption of a new policy that proposed the identification of marginalised areas in developed counties.
“As a first step into the review process, the CRA carried out inception visits to 16 counties identified as marginalised between 15 to 26 May, 2017,” said Dr Kiringai.
Charles Kipkulei a resident and a Political analyst said that the county shall significantly change for the better because more funds shall be directly and exclusively availed for development purposes.
“Article 95 (4) (a) of our constitution is explicit on the role of senators where it states that they determine allocation of national revenue to county governments which includes individual lobbying to ensure favourable funding to their counties,”said Kipkulei.
