Despite being shot on the thigh which led to his leg amputated, Nahashon Leshian (pictured) from insecurity prone of Kiserian ,Baringo South sub county managed to score 356 marks in just released Kenya Certificate of Primary Examination (KCPE).

Leshian who studied in Kiserian Primary School topped in his class of 66 pupils didn’t hide his joy after going through thick and thin in studying after bandits raided his home in 2014 while herding shooting his right leg.

After the gruelling ordeal from the merciless rustlers his parents made frantic efforts to dislodge the bullet that was still in his femur months after the shot out not aware that he will lose the leg following doctor’s recommendation that the leg be amputated since the bullet had deformed the leg.

“It was heartbreaking news that didn’t sunk to me immediately but i had to accept because there was no reverse,” Leshian told Riftnews at his aunts home in Kabarak where he is seeking refuge after sitting for the exam last month.

“It was an uphill task learning to walk to school with one leg but i was forced to adjust thanks to the artificial leg it was bought after the surgery. My eyes were on to the prize to complete my studies where i enrolled to class six to continue with my studies.

I never looked what had happened behind Leshian added saying years on he proceeded to class eight where he sat for the national examination this year.

“Though tension was high in the area while doing the exam, God’s hand was evident as He helped me to write my exam peacefully and that is why we here to celebrate the results,” said Leshian amid cheers from a crowd that had turned up to celebrate the results.

Margret Letiren who is aunt to Nahashon was elated after receiving the good news said Nahashon was a disciplined boy and never distracted by any challenges but focused to his dreams.

“As a family we are grateful to almighty God for the sterling performance of Leshian because we never knew he could emerge victorious despite the disability,” said Mrs Letiren.
