Three-time Kenya champion Baldev Chager navigated by Ravi Soni in a Posreche 911 wrestled the pole position in the last round of Top Fry Classic Safari Rally from race favourite Carl ‘Flash’ Tundo, to hand the Kabras team sweet double podium finish in the vintage car rally which ended on Monday in Baringo.

Siblings Onkar Rai and Tejveer Rai also in a Porsche 911 came in third for Kabras after Raaji Bharij and Rajay Sehmi to complete a 1-2-3 Porsche finish.

The vintage car rally which was held over five days in Laikipia and Baringo Counties attracted 37 entries including five drivers from Britain and three from South Africa with a large dominance of Porsche 911 and various models of Datsun.

Tundo who was the race defending champion put a tight grip on the lead in final stages of the race and seemed unassailable only to be relegated to a distant position 24 by mechanical problems.

“Baringo circuit is dry, hot and rocky. It is more challenging than the Laikipia course but our focus now is to finish the race.” Tundo had told reporters before the start of his ill fated last leg.

The 2018 Top Fry Safari Classic Rally lived to its billing as it was bigger and better than 2016’s event, with over 1,500kms of competitive track, running over a five-day period, through uniquely stunning expanses of Northern Kenya.
