As tea workers in the counties of Kericho, Bomet and Nandi  continue with their agitation for wage increase, Central Organization for Trade Unions (COTU) boss Francis Atwoli has supported the legitimacy of the ongoing  protest by tea workers arguing that the protest shall continue until an amicable resolution is reached.

Speaking in Kisumu, the Secretary General raised concerns on how the employers were taking long before effecting the wage increases  that now date to 4 years since it was agreed on, Atwoli further warned the employers on their plot to derail the workers rights citing that the workers won’t turn up for work until a return to work formula  is achieved.

“We had agreed on Tuesday that the protest shall continue, workers can not finish 4 years in the tea sector of our economy in the tea plantation without further ruling and this is an abuse of trade union and human rights because the employer is trying to dehumanize workers at the same time we have a court  order in our possession compelling the employers not to visit workers in their houses until we meet and we enter into a return to work formula.”
