A Rapid Deployed Unit (RDU) officer is reported to have gone berserk and started spraying bullets randomly killing two of his colleagues on the spot injuring one.

The shooting incident that happened around 9PM at Rdu camps which one Apc  Mwangi Jackson Nyaga shot three officers, namely Gabriel kungu Njoroge, Francis Ekeno and Daniel Kyalo Mutuku.

Confirming the incident Baringo County Administration Police commander Robinson Ndhiwa said that they are yet to ascertain the reason behind the killings amid the ongoing operation in the region to flush out bandits.

“It was around 9 pm last night when the officer took his gun attacking his colleagues killing two and another one sustaining serious injuries on the thigh then forcing his way out of the camp. He is headed to Laikipia county,”said Ndiwa.

Ndiwa who said the incident is an isolated case saying the circumstances that led to the incident is unknown but singled out stress or anything relating to the officer ending the lives of his colleagues.

“No one should relate this incident to stress as a result of straining since the officers were just from leave. We will ascertain the motive of the incident once he is arrested,” added Ndiwa.

The officer so far has been airlifted to a Nakuru hospital for further treatment.

With the ongoing operation in the area Ndiwa said the incident will not affect the operation assuring the locals that the operation is ongoing.

In a quick condemnation by a section of leaders following the shooting, Eddy Koimet who is vying for Baringo central seat said the officers on operation should be given support system and constant counseling.
