More than 10 girls in Nginyang Girls High School, Tiaty Baringo County drop out of school annually due to early pregnancy.

This  is attributed to  lack good of parenting and retrogressive cultures which has greatly affected education.

According School’s Principal Mrs Jane Birgen , 33 girls have dropped out of school since inception of the school in 2012  alarming  the future of girl’s education in the area hampering their future and education.

The upsurge of teenage girls in the area getting pregnant is not a big deal as parents even see as a blessing to the family which has seen many school going girls get pregnant at an early age of 13.

Cultures like female genital mutilation, girls married off at tender age early and village dances are largely blamed for the rising teenage pregnancies of Pokot girls.

Mrs Birgen said the vices tolerate the rising trends of girls absconding their education to plunge into early motherhood which is hampering greatly the education of the girl child.

Mrs Birgen told Rift News that the school’s population early this year was  150 but it has now dropped to 128 with  10 girls cases of pregnancies registered every term.

She further said a times their husband who have already  paid dowry to their parents come to school demanding their teenage girls  out of school for domestic chores like looking after livestock and upbringing of the child.

The principal further said nearly 90% of the students are mothers of one or two children and if not so she is a mother of the death having procured abortion,.

The remaining percentage of students population  are outsiders thus bringing the cases of girl child education  perturbing  .

Incidents also blame the thriving technology amongst school going girls which has made school girls fall a prey because of  enhanced phone calls from outsiders.

Leaders from the region have come out to condemn the perpetrators. Led by Deputy county commissioner Daniel Kirui who warned officers or any person found to have impregnated the girl child will face full force of the law .

Nelson Lotela Silale ward MCA urged parents to be responsible with their children and especially the girl child who is perceived to be a lesser human being in the society.
