Five hundred women who attended a seminar organized by National Oil who are currently stranded at Kabarnet after the organization failed to reimburse them their sitting allowances which included fare and lunch might end up spending the night outside the county commissioner’s office.
The women drawn from all sub counties in the county say that they were officially invited to the one day workshop which was being held at Kenya school of Government, organized by National Oil.
They are now worried that they may end up sleeping in the streets if they will not be given transport to head back to their homes.
They say that they also fear they might be chased away by their husbands if they fail to arrive home in good time.
Janet Kipkales from Baringo central said that they will not walk out of the county commissioner’s office unless they get their dues.
“Some of our leaders were paid well and us we were left stranded without knowing our fate and yet we had been promised the same” Mrs Kipkales added that it is unfair for the government to take them for granted.
Rachel Chepsergon said that they were send messages to attend the seminar which they were expecting that they could have been compensated because they don’t have transport.
She said that they were given Shs 200 without lunch and even water adding that they expected they could get something to go and feed their children.
The women marched in the streets of Kabarnet town demanding to be reimbursed or sales they will not move out of the premises.
Luke Lagat E Ravine Women Enterprise Fund representative said that they have vehicles which had hired and they don’t have money to pay for the vehicles.
Mr.Lagat said that the organizers owe the women more than half a million which were to be divided amongst themselves.
