Deputy President William Ruto has lauded Baringo County Government and main sponsor KCB Foundation for initiating the Annual Kimalel Goat Auction saying it has greatly boosted farmers.
The Deputy President while auctioning over 2,300 goats said initiative since inception in 2013 has assisted farmers fetch higher prices than before.
Mr . Ruto said the idea has uplifted the livelihoods of pastoralists hence assisting low income farmers depending on goat rearing raise enough money.
He urged other counties especially pastoralist communities to emulate Baringo county to enable them generate wealth.
The Deputy President however criticized Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (CORD) for disrespecting Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) over choice of commissioners to head the body.
Mr. Ruto said the CORD principals should keep off affairs of IEBC and prepare their coalition well to face off with jubilee in 2017.
‘‘ What does CORD want to know of credible elections if they are still in disagreement with IEBC commissioners preferred to head the body ahead of 2017 polls? If the principals insist that their preferred choice of commissioners meet the credibility test to head IEBC , then CORD is the genesis of all election malpractices ,’’ DP Ruto said at the Kimalel Goat Auction and Cultural Fair.
Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen and Kericho Senator Aaron Cheruiyot however accused the opposition for sabotaging development efforts realized by jubilee administration.
They said CORD has nothing to show the country despite criticizing the government in the fight against craft .
CORD continuous criticism against the government has lost hope from Kenyans in Jubilee government.
28 Million shillings were raised at the Goat Auction and cultural fete where 2,326 goats were sold.
Over 600 goats however were also rejected by organizers of the function bringing protests from farmers.
