Baringo county governor has said the county needs over Ksh 700 M funds to address the drought that has hit the county.
Addressing a press conference in his office on Thursday, Benjamin Cheboi said at the moment ,the county needs Kshs700 million to address the situation, saying that they need Shs 185million for water , Shs 203million for livestock ,Shs72 million for veterinary services ,two million for Social protection and cash transfers ,248 million shillings among other needs.
“We are going to partner with National government and Non-governmental organizations to ensure drought is addressed. As a county government we are going to provide Ksh 88M to assist in provision of aid to the affected but we need over Ksh 700 M ,”said Cheboi.
He also appealed to the national government to introduce feeding program in schools which are situated in hunger stricken areas which has been caused by the ongoing drought.
” I want to ask school heads not to send home students due to lack of fees since the situation will be arrested soon if the government introduces the feeding program,” further added Cheboi.
Devolution Cabinet Secretary Mwangi Kiunjuri and Water Cabinet secretary Eugene Wamalwa will be visiting the county to assess the drought situation.
