Baringo County Assembly is mourning the death of Maji Mazuri ward Member of County Assembly Mr. Peter Kagathi.
Confirming his demise the house was told that the Chair of Agriculture committee succumbed to high blood pressure at a Nakuru hospital.
He was eulogized by the house on Wednesday as one on the members who stood firm to defend the rights of his people.
The MCA was among few individuals who testified in Truth Justice and Reconciliation Commission as area councilor to champion rights of minority Kikuyu in Baringo County before being elected as the area leader under the devolved system of government.
Mr . Kagathi was also extolled as a great leader and crusader of justice who until his demise he was agitating for his people to be given title deeds.
‘‘Assembly has lost two great men since last year who devoted their time by demonstrating good leadership qualities. Mr. Kagathi was an open leader appreciated by many ,’’ said MCA Nelson Parkei.
KANU nominated MCA Mr. Charles Kamuren and his counterpart Barwessa MCA Joseph Makilap told the house that there is need for the house to adopt Kenya National Union of Teachers welfare fund awarded in case of death of a member of the house and family members.
They said it would be easy in settling medical bills for members during hard times.
Speaker of the house Mr. William Kamket while adjourning the sessions until November , regretted that the house has lost a strong leader and promised to support the family.
