As mass voters registration enters its final weeks concerns have been raised by aspirants and political leaders that proxies of the incumbents are using relief food in exchange of national identification in areas they perceive they do not have massive support.
In a political rally held yesterday in Kabartonjo and brought over 30 aspirants and politicians of Baringo dubbed TEAM CHANGE, they said that incumbents have sensed defeat hence have resorted to use the residents suffering who have been hit hard by hunger pangs in exchange of National identification.
Led by former acting Kenya airways Authority managing director who is also vying for Baringo north MP Mr.Yatich Kangugo said that they got assurance from party leader that the nomination would be free and fair .
“Some unscrupulous people have resorted to use relief food and money in exchange of national identification which thus result to election malpractice and uneven playing field for ahead of nomination,” said Kangugo.
He further said they have written to IEBC officials to investigate the matter, his sentiments were echoed by Polio ambassador Harold Kipchumba who condemn practice and process that abuse fair and free elections.
When contacted for comment on phone Baringo north IEBC coordinator Sally Chesang confirmed receiving reports of exchange of relief foods for Ids saying that they have formed a team of investigators together with police and warned anyone found will face the law and his candidature nullified.
In voters registration they urged residents to turn up since the beginning of the exercise Baringo County has just registered 12% owed the prevailing drought where most residents have migrated, they urged IEBC officials to work exra hours even at night to reach out to the population.
