The 14 th edition of Lotto Baringo Half Marathon will take place this Saturday in Baringo County.

Speaking at the media briefing held at a Nairobi hotel, Dr. Paul Tergat,noted that sports events at the grassroots are important as they create opportunities to nurture budding talent.
“The hosting of such an event, thanks to our various partners who have graciously sponsored the event, gives me a huge sense of pride. This is because of the immense change potential to this can bring to the lives of many,” he went on to say.
This is where future champions are discovered and nurtured. “Mary Kaitany, former London marathon winner who currently holds the second fastest marathon in the world was discovered in the Baringo Half Marathon,” he noted.

Dr. Tergat expressed his gratitude to all partners for embracing this event that seeks to provide opportunities to nurture and grow one‟s talents in athletics.
“These skills cultivated over time help produce well-rounded citizens who advocate for social development,” he noted.

This year , Lotto Foundation has taken the lead investing in the development of athletics in Kenya by sponsoring the road to Rio Campaign and by taking up the role of title sponsor in this year’s Baringo Half Marathon.
Mr. Brian Waluchio, CEO, Lotto East Africa, underscored the importance of supporting good causes which is the mandate of Lotto Foundation. 

He reiterated that partnership with like-minded individuals and corporates helps create opportunities to do good and positively impact societies.
Baringo County Governor Benjamin Cheboi reflected on the importance sporting activities have in promoting peace and cohesion among the people.
Elite athletes who will feature in this race are Amos Mibei, former Kass Marathon winner, Josephat Menjo a Track and field star, Geofrey Mutai and Japan based runner Amos Kaptich.

This year there will be four different races. The 21km race; the 12 km wheel chair race; the 6km junior race the 10km race open to individuals and corporates.
The race will be flagged off will be at Kabartonjo by the Baringo County Governor, Benjamin Cheboi.
Top winners of the half marathon will take home Kshs 200,000 while the winner of the 10km take home Khs 30,000.
The participants for this year’s race will be over 250 runners.
